Westin Lagunamar Cancun

Cancun is a beach lovers paradise. Situated on the south east coast of Mexico, it is probably most famous as a destination most frequented by American students on 'Spring Break'. With some of the most crystal clear waters in the world, it is a very popular vacation destination for tourists from the USA, England, Ireland and Australia.

Although popular for young travellers due to its lively bar and nightclub strip, older travellers will still enjoy this Mexican hot spot due to it's relaxing lifestyle and close proximity to the Mayan archaeological sites.

Car Rental

Car Rental in Cancun is popular for tourists wishing to see more of this little part of Mexico - especially if you are interested in visiting regions to the south of Cancun like Playa de Carmen and the Tulum region. Car Hire is also required if you intend to visit the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza, which is one of the largest Maya cities.

Cancun Airport has a number of car rental companies located within the main terminal including Hertz, Thrifty, Budget, and Dollar rent a car. For car rental in the tourist district of Cancun, there are National, Alamo and Europcar depots located in the Hotel zone including the Hilton, Holiday Inn, Hotel Presidente and Westin Lagunamar.

Driving in Mexico

Driving in Mexico is relatively simple if you follow the road rules and the etiquitte of other drivers on the road. Driving is on the right hand side - as in the USA. Drive at or below the speed limit and ensure you have a reliable map, and spare change in the event of encountering toll roads. Police frequently patrol the roads around Cancun, so beware that they may pull your car over and ask to see your drivers licence or other forms of identification and ownership of the car. Unfortunately bribery still exists in Mexico, so be prepared to 'pay your way' if you end up in a difficult situation with the authorities.
